The Boy Who Became

Once there was a little boy,

Who dreamed of talking moons.

In his eyes, stars that danced,

singing lucid tunes.

He dreamed of fins instead of feet

When scrubbing in the tub.

He dreamed his dog could speak Spanish

& birds could fall in love.

He dreamed his mom was never sad

& dad was never blue,

In his heart imaginings his family never knew.

One bright fine day

This boy declared,

“Out for a walk I’ll go!’

Off into the forest

He wandered to-and-fro.

Out by the trees

The boy did see

His one true best of friends;

“Come with me!”

The boy exclaimed

“just around the bend!”

Out of his eye,

The boy did spy,

A flicker & a flash!

“Did you see that sparkle,

Hiding in the grass?”

Before his friend

Could say a word

Came forth a floating light.

Out of the shadows rose a speck,

A tiny flying sprite!

So small and swift the light did float,

& to the boy’s surprise,

 Upon his lap a fairy

With golden glowing eyes!

The fairy stood so tall & proud

He shined a million suns,

From his mouth he muttered,

a melody he sung;

“little boy who dreams & dreams

of everything & all,

through your vast imaginings,

I have heard your call.

I have for you an offering

A wish I grant to thee,

If you can dream it

Let it be!

Speak this wish

& in a flash,

This granted dream

Will come to pass!”

The little boy did take a pause

To ponder and to feel,

“just one wish

You ask of me,

what could this all reveal?”

A moment past & no-one spoke

Until the boy did gasp,

“I know just what to ask for,

What wish to wish at last!

I wish to become everything,

What’s big and what is small,

I wish to become infinite

A collection of the all!”

Just like that

The fairy winked,

“And so, the spell is cast!”

Off into the woods he flew,

Was gone within a flash!

The boys they paused

& held their breath

Waiting for a cue.

When time did pass

& not a stir

They wondered

                                                                    What to do?

From below

& from above

They heard a great big stir,

Above them light began to flash

The trees began to purr!

The little boy broke out in dance

His heart it burst a grew

“I feel just like a firework,

The wish it all came true!”

Suddenly the boy could see

His friend had shrunk in size,

But it was he who grew so big,

A tower in the sky!

Past the clouds

His head did sprout

 Beyond the atmosphere.

The sky turned vast & infinite

The moon was bright & near,

“could it be,

That I am all,

From Earth deep into space?”

Just like that, the boy was such;

The great expansive place!

His face made up the galaxies,

His heart the centered core.

“It feels so free

To be so grand,

What more could be in store?”

Another flash

The boy was shrunk,

A fragment of his size.

A glimmer in the smallest way,

A flicker of pure light.

“How magical it is to be

That which can end the night!”

Faster than sound,

he sped so quick

A light just like the sun,

The boy he laughed and lit the world

The fun had just begun.

As the light

He dimmed his glow

Then spun into the Earth.

 From a seed he sprouted,

A tree was given birth.

He started small

Yet quickly grew

Into a great big oak.

His trunk was larger than a house

His branches like a cloak.

His leaves became a bird’s new nest

His acorns food for squirrels.

The critters played on his branch

His leaves made songs with wind,

& he saw his dream come true,

he missed his once small home.

 The boy cried out,

“Oh, golden fairy, Little sprite,

Take back this great big wish!

Without my friends and family,

I do not want this gift!”

From a spark

Deep within

Came forth a loving voice,

“I heard your cries from deep inside

No need to change your choice.

Little boy, who dreams so big,

The infinite and all.

This granted dream

Leaves nothing out

No one is left uncalled.

 You have become

All that can be

The All is within you

& with this truth

Your friends and home

Have come to join with you!”

His Mom

His Dad,

His Sister,

His one true best of friends,

All the dogs and creatures

Across the sea & lands,

further still

The world approached

All humans holding hands

From within this great big crowd

His Father took a stand!

“You see my son,

Your granted gift

To become what is all,

Gave us a chance to dream big too

& chose to join your call.

You have shown another way

To what is good & grand.

You see my son,

you are the dream,

the wish

& the command.”

From below and from above came forth a great big stir

As the tree he quivered,

His roots began to purr.

In a flash

He shifted form

From shadow

Into light!

Suddenly, the boy was whole

A golden flying sprite!

…

“after all,

it was me,

The fairy & the granted dream?

All along,

I was the wish

& the spell that casted this!

Now I offer this to you

A wish that finally comes true!”

“We wish for love, we wish for peace,

We wish to become everything!”

The fairy winked

& in a flash,

“This granted dream has come to pass!”
